We met purpose and preservation with a dream. We breathed new life and purpose into something that was destined to disappear. While engrossed in the project and conscientiously working away, we froze a piece of Eastsound (just one lot with a soul as deep as our waters), that now has been removed from the accelerated development of what our little sleepy town has been experiencing. But looking back at this journey we embarked upon, we have realized we accomplished something tremendous. It has to do with island legends passing their torch, family roots that are stronger than I could have imagined, and a big dream in a small town. It has taken Eddie and I years of commitment, dedication, and hard work to be able to open the doors of Olga Rising, formerly known as Shinola, the jewelry shop in Eastsound. Thirty years later, I finally started to voice this out loud (be careful when you do that!), and that is when the wind filled the sails of this old and once forgotten dream. I often thought of wanting to create something that evoked the same environment and created that sense of community that made you feel like you were tucked into a small island harbor filled with good people. We all felt connected despite our differences. The owners were exceptional people, and the community came together and enjoyed each other’s company while enjoying all the coffee aromas. When Eddie and I were high school sweethearts (here on Orcas forever ago), I worked at a coffee house in Eastsound. We came here or were called here to this island because we wanted/needed something different from the mainland. We feel it’s important to not stray too far away from what brought us all here to Orcas in the first place. Our island is definitely in the midst of change that has us sailing through these unusual times. Here is what Fiona wrote on an Instagram post:Įverything changes with time. They are pros at doing this kind of thing – taking a place that already had its own elements of charm and raising the charm and wonder exponentially. Fiona and Ed Stone transformed it into a beyond-charming little coffee, sandwiches, and goodies place in the heart of Eastsound (next to the Co-op not in the hamlet of Olga) that has a wonderful feel to it. This place used to be Vance’s jewelry shop. I’ve been wanting to post Olga Rising for months now, and my photos just don’t do it justice, so I’ll give you a basic look at it if you haven’t been there yet, and you’ll have to see the rest for yourself.

If, for whatever reason in the world, that DOESN'T work, then this should for sure: simply delete that directory entirely and then git clone this repo once again to receive a fresh and fully working revision. Git reset -hard origin/master # best bet, later if you want you can switch branches If this has happened to you, the best solution we can offer is to run the following commands: What could occur in such a case is that when you do so from an old state, Git may have some trouble merging/resolving the history and how it's developed since then (we're told some force pushes could be to blame) which could then cause a number of problems like absent wings, due to a discrepancy with the model files (.ac) – this makes sense, considering that the model files have consistently had extensive changes made to them in our efforts to improve them. The lsb_release command stands for “Linux Standard Base Release.” It is a standard tool used to identify the distribution-specific information about your system. The command is installed by default on most Linux distributions, so you don’t need to install anything. It displays information about the operating system distribution, release, and codename. The lsb_release command is a simple way to check which version of Linux you are running on your machine. Finding Your Linux OS Name Using the lsb_release Command Additionally, when seeking help from online forums or communities related to your particular distribution, knowing your version information can help others offer targeted advice based on their own experiences with similar setups. If you need technical support for your system, it is helpful to know which distribution you are running so that support representatives can provide appropriate assistance more quickly. Different versions may have varying levels of compatibility with certain programs or hardware devices. Knowing your Linux OS Name and Kernel version can be critical when troubleshooting issues with your system or when installing new software applications. Importance of knowing your Linux OS Name and Kernel Version Each distribution has its own set of features and software packages tailored to a specific audience or use case. The name of a Linux distribution refers to the specific variation or flavor of Linux being used.įor example, some popular distributions include Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Fedora, CentOS, and many others. It manages memory usage, input/output operations, process scheduling, and other critical functions. The kernel is the core component of the operating system that provides basic services for all other parts of the OS. The Linux operating system (OS) is a software program that manages computer hardware resources and provides common services for computer programs. Explanation of Linux OS Name and Kernel Version Given this diversity, it is important to know which distribution you are using and what version of the kernel it runs on. This means that there are hundreds of different variations, or distributions, of Linux available for use. Linux is an open-source operating system that gives users the freedom to modify and distribute it as they wish. Open a new Illustrator file and set the dimensions to whatever piece of collateral you want to create first. How to Use Adobe Illustrator Artboards Step 1. In this tutorial, we’re going to show you how you can use Adobe Illustrator artboards to help brainstorm and execute a social media strategy. Rarely do we start a project knowing exactly what everything will look like, so artboards make it easy to experiment with different designs and view all of your options at once. You can easily create Illustrator artboards of varying sizes, organize them however you like, and ensure that the branding remains consistent across all of the materials.Īrtboards are also incredibly helpful for making decisions. If you’re working on a sale or event, for example, you’d probably want to create flyers, website banners, and social media ads for the project-all of which would need to align visually, but would likely have different size requirements. This could include anything from an event, sales promotion, or even a website redesign. So when exactly are artboards most useful? Typically, Illustrator artboards come in handy whenever you have a project that needs several (or many) pieces of collateral. You can also save each artboard as its own illustrator document, so if you ever want to just work on one asset you don’t have to open everything at once. You can arrange these “papers” so that you can see everything at once, or you can put some of them to the side and focus on one at a time. Opening a new document in Adobe Illustrator is like placing a single piece of paper on an empty desk, and creating new artboards is like adding more papers to the desk. This can do wonders for your workflow, creating much more efficient processes all the way from brainstorming to execution. Artboards allow you to view all of the materials for a project in a single document-without having to constantly click back and forth between tabs. Surely there must be a way to save something from Illustrator at it's correct size ignoring the art board.Adobe Illustrator artboards can be an incredible asset, but sometimes they cause users to scratch their heads and wonder, “What are these even for?” The simple answer is organization. So what I always end up doing at this point is opening a Photoshop file of the size I need, pasting in the art from Illustrator as pixels, then doing a 'save for web' to make it a jpg. I can't find any option or setting to just save or export or save for web for just the layer, i.e. It always saves the whole artboard with my small logo in the corner. I grab a corner and resize my logo - looks great except now it's a small logo in the corner of a large art board.Īnd I cannot figure out how to just save or export the art. So i need a version that is only 150 pixels wide. I need a version of it that is smaller and web friendly so I can add my logo to an online service. Right now I am working with my logo file. The whole artboard thing drives me crazy and I can never seem to do what i want. This is probably the biggest reason I so often turn to Photoshop instead of Illustrator. I wondered if there are 'standard' raspberry pi options that should always be applied? I was going to try and compile this (probably not the easiest task for a total amateur like me I know! ), mainly just as a proof of concept but also out of sheer curiosity to see how well it ran. So back on the subject of compiling - am I right in thinking that once you have certain dependancies installed and available that you could 'force' them onto a set of source code data and build, or does the source code specifically have to support what you're trying to force onto it? So for arguments sake - MAME 0.139 source code. I haven't got round to trying that version of Blood yet no - I had read poor reports of it? I have however tried a Duke Nukem mod of Blood and whilst it looks to be very faithful of the original game, it runs very poorly on the Pi for some reason. Regard your desire for Blood, have you tried the Blood Total Conversion for Doom 2 built for the ZDoom engine? now if only Blood was able to be ported.ĭudleydes wrote:I followed the instructions below at the ZDoom wiki which told me which dependencies I required on the Pi and how to compile on Linux (though it did take some time for me to get my head around them). Much appreciated! I will post results of mod tests (if I get it compiled successfully). I loved all these games from back in the day and being able to play them on my Pi on the big screen is just great! People may wonder why I would seemingly get excited over Doom ports but it really opens up a new world of mods and TC's as well as Hexen and Heretic in the pi. I will have a try of this myself when I'm in from work, along with chocolate doom. Can't remember off the top of my head what it was but it's in the read me file on github. I had sound working ok when I built it but I had to fiddle with the sound menu. I am very glad to hear you have it running smooth on Pi1, that gives me a lot of hope for Pi2! Thanks for the in-depth instructions, it is most appreciated. I shall continue investigating how to enable audio. MakeCompiling the binary took about 4 hours on the RPi 1. the repository does say that his version is outdated and to use the 'Master' version instead, but I can't see any Raspberry Pi specific callouts on that site? Link below: I'd really like to get this working as I want to try a few different mods on there (namely Blood and Brutal Doom, if they work), so if anyone could help out I'd be most appreciated! There aren't any instructions that I can find on how to compile the binary so I have just done a straightforward cmake and make - perhaps I should have been setting some flags on there? I'm still quite the noob when it comes to Linux. I was wondering if anyone else had built ZDoom on the Pi 2 and had a better experience? From what I have read it should work great but it just isn't. Reading the 'Readme' file provided, it mentions that sound may cause it to slow down, but this slowdown just happens all the time (and I have tried the changes recommended to improve performance but it doesn't help). I installed all the packages that were required to build and it seemed to build ok with no unexpected errors, but it just doesn't run very fast at all. However it runs very poor, unplayable really. Why is it a Bad Idea to Always Shoot Subsonic Ammo? In other words, even though it isn't that loud in the grand scheme of things, the supersonic crack can make a real difference to how much you enjoy shooting. Every shooter has a different comfort level when it comes to sound and, if you're already close to you maximum level the supersonic crack will probably push you over it.As a result, it often sounds like it's louder than it really is - which has a real impact on whether the shooter feels like they need additional hearing protection. The supersonic crack is a sharp sound that's typically less comfortable than the 'thud' of a suppressed round.Having said that, the decibel level doesn't tell the whole story for a couple of reasons: 22 because it's easy to get ammo that runs just under or over the speed of sound - so we could eliminate other variables.) There's actually a bigger difference when going from a low-end to a high-end model. 22, for example, the difference between subsonic and supersonic ammunition is typically only a couple of decibels. There are lots of factors that impact how loud the supersonic crack is but, in most of our testing we've found it isn't very loud compared to the report of the firearm. Many hog hunters will point out that although the hogs can definitely hear the crack, they don't know where to run when using a suppressor. Unlike the report of the firearm, which has a very specific origination point, the supersonic crack actually originates along the entire path of the bullet - as long as it's traveling faster than the speed of sound.īecause the supersonic crack is traveling with the bullet, it can't be localized the same way a typical gun shot can. At that speed, the pressure waves can't get out of the way fast enough - and they merge together as a 'crack' that travels away from the bullet at the speed of sound. While this pressure wave is created at any speed, it becomes noticeable as a 'crack' once the bullet surpasses the speed of sound (which is approximately 1125 feet per second). Essentially, the air has to move out of the way so rapidly that it's forced to be temporarily compressed. When people first start learning about suppressors, one of the first 'facts' they learn is typically that you can't suppress supersonic ammunition.Īfter a bullet is fired, it creates pressure waves as air is displaced along its path. |
